Aliens: Colonial Marines

Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software, recently gave an interview on Aliens: Colonial Marines and pointed out that every Alien fan looking forward to the game will have their own key feature that it's most important for the company to get right. For me, perhaps somewhat unusually, that key feature is the game's music.

The Aliens franchise is full of great characters, great weapons, great sounds, great atmosphere. It's just fantastic, the second film has even been voted as the greatest sic-fi film of all time. All of the above things are important and without them the game will not succeed, but it's the music that is key.

The soundtrack, mainly for the second film, is, for me, one of the greatest in any film. Not only is it incredibly memorable but it compliments the film perfectly, at every moment. Every moment of music is perfect, there isn't a single note that is out of place and the action packed scenes have their intensity ramped up a notch because of the incredible score.

The game may have great rifle sounds and fantastic motion tracker sounds but if, when the bullets start to fly and explosions start to go off, there is no epic soundtrack straight from the second film then I will be very disappointed, to the point where the game may find itself on my waste of time list, up their next to good old Assassin's Creed Revelations.
