Unreal Engine 4 and Wii U

The Wii U is set to release at the end of the year and all eyes are on Nintendo. One of its biggest challenges will be third party support when the PS4 and Xbox 720 are released.

There is a rumour circulating that Unreal Engine 4 will not support Wii U. Unreal Engine 3 has been used in games such as Batman, Mass Effect, Dishonoured and countless other hit third party games. Without its support Nintendo will struggle.

This is just a rumour but it is one from journalist Geoff Keighly who is working closely with Epic in the run up to E3 where the new graphics engine will be on display. Of course there are plenty of other graphics engines but there are countless third party developers who use Unreal Engine 3 and they are likely to use 4 for the next gen. Without it Nintendo will have a lot of space to fill.

It seems people's worries about Nintendo's chances in the next generation will only be growing. Hopefully at E3 they can calm things down, but if this story is true then they will struggle to attract gamers from Sony and Microsoft particularly when they release their new consoles within the next couple of years.
