Nintendo needed an incredible E3 this year, they needed unannounced first party titles like Zelda and Metroid, and maybe even a new IP. They also needed some killer third party games like Bioshock Infinite and Grand Theft Auto V.
Instead what we got was Mario U, Batman, a collection of mini games and an improved Wii Fit. Well done Nintendo. Well done, you didn't just shoot yourself in the foot so much as hack your entire lower body off.
The 3DS I'm sure will still be incredible but the Wii U has not been shown to have the impressive lineup it needs. There aren't enough hardcore games to attract Microsoft and Sony fans, Wii Fit U is unlikely to convince casual Wii fans to spend upwards of £250 and their isn't a whole load of cool first party stuff either.
Whilst the controller and Miiverse certainly look set to change gaming the gaming part doesn't seem like its that great. There was also no focus on power, it needs to be powerful enough to stay relevant when the PS4 and 720 come out and this wasn't confirmed.
I'm sure Nintendo's faithful will buy the console but the casual and hardcore market will see very little appeal in the console and it's lineup if E3 is anything to go by. Let's hope they prove me wrong by the end of the week.
