Call of Duty Black Ops 2 is here and Activision's printers are printing dollar after dollar already. Every year we get a new one and every year they make more and more money but, in the past, this hasn't meant that the games are actually any good. Whilst I feel Treyarch's are all good the Modern Warfare series' existence has, in my eyes, really damaged the series and meant that Black Ops 2 needed to be seriously good.
After the first few missions I can safely say that I'm very impressed. Whilst the game's campaign does retain all of the things you'd expect from a Call of Duty game - the big set pieces, relentless action, vehicle and turret moments mixed in with normal fights and all of that sort of thing - it's different this time around. This time there's a damn good story. Alex Mason has missions in the Cold War and his son, David, has some in the near future of 2025, both of them are hunting down main antagonist Raul Menendez whose tragic story makes him a fascinating character who isn't just 'the bad guy' but is in fact deep, thought provoking and engaging. There are plenty of tie-ins with the first Black Ops with mentions of Reznov and his pals and all in all the story so far is the best in the series and even a pretty strong one outside of the series.
So far much of what else I've done has been same old same old but I'm about to do a Strikeforce mission which really promises to shake up the gameplay and of course there is the multiplayer mode and the zombie mode which I've yet to touch. That's the other great thing about the game so far, there is a hell of a lot of content.
I know a lot of people have criticised the graphics engine but the graphics have improved from past games and, although they aren't mind blowing and there are still some issues with grass colours popping in and textures looking a bit iffy at times they are, on the whole, pretty solid.
These are just my first impressions of the game and I'm not very far through it so keep checking back for further updates and ill keep you posted on the review.
