I'm Sick of This S***

Some of you, in fact all of you who don't live under rocks, may have heard that the Wii U isn't selling well. Its sold about four million units since November but most of those were in November and in December. This year its sales have tanked thanks largely to a lack of releases. To make matters worse when games did come in March (Lego City and Monster Hunter 3) stock issues messed up their sales. So yeah the Wii U is struggling but, as I've discovered for having owned one now for a week, its a great console with some great games.

The thing is, people all over the industry, from bloggers to professional journalists to developers and publishers think that, because its had a few slow months and isn't as powerful as the PS4 or impending Xbox, its doomed to fail and Nintendo should pull out of the home console market. You see, with Nintendo’s track record of profitability (only one recorded loss in the 30 years they’ve made home consoles) and the fact that only the Virtual Boy and the 3DS launch can be considered gargantuan cock ups, people think that a few months of difficulty for a new home console (something all three of last gen’s consoles experienced) spells doom for gaming’s most revered company.

Wait. What? A lack of graphical power and a few months of slow sales and all of a sudden one of the biggest companies in the world, with 30 years of profitability, a trillion Yen parked in the bank and the most respected and beloved string of home and handheld consoles, as well as games and developers, should stop doing what they do best? What the f***? ARE YOU F***ING INSANE?!

So called professionals, people who study the industry, who spent their lives enjoying the industry, who are paid to write about these issues are ignorantly spewing s*** about one of, no scrap that, THE most important company in the games industry. A company who have never had an unsuccessful home console and who, out of the 8 console generations they have been part of have led sales in three of them and turned a profit in all of them. Remember the Wii? That had a lack of graphical power and featured a few quiet months but was the best selling console of that generation and revolutionised the gaming market for good. Of course the follow up console isn't doing as well as that! Not everything Nintendo do can change the world. That doesn't mean it cant be a success. Remember the 3DS? When that launched it sold abysmally, now its got some awesome games being released regularly and had a price cut its sold 30 million units and is raking in money for Nintendo.

But the Wii U. Oh that’s doomed. Yeah Nintendo should stop making home consoles, the NES, SNES, N64, GameCube and Wii are proof that they cant do that and the Wii U having a few slow months and being weaker than the PS4 and NextBox is just the final nail in the coffin. Wake the f*** up! The Wii U isn't selling because most people consider £250 too much to put down for a console without many games coming out. It doesn't need a price cut and Nintendo don't need to surrender, people need to be patient and wait for the new 3D Mario, the new Zelda, the new Smash Bros. and the new Mario Kart. Nintendo are guaranteed to have at least one of those out for Christmas and then thats it, the Wii U will sell in the millions and all of this bullshit will be seen for what it is. The same thing happened to the 3DS and it will happen here.

Sure having to wait so many months for a steady stream of good games isn't ideal but sadly its how the industry works, its what happened with the PS3, 360 and Wii and its what’s happening here. It doesn't mean a company is doomed, it means people are impatient and are alarmingly ready to stand on their soap box and spit bollocks from their mouths.

Journalists who spread this kind of crap should be ashamed, you are supposed to be the voice of reason, bring information to the masses, spread the word about games and help people enjoy this fantastic industry, not incite pointless arguments and make ignorant statements with little fact to base them on.

Yes the Wii U is struggling, yes there aren't enough games being shipped for it each month but the games are coming, the release schedule will hit its stride and the console will sell and will make Nintendo a good amount of money. So stop spouting s***, sit down, play some games and be bloody patient.

Right, thanks for putting up with that, if you have any thoughts on the subject feel free to let me know in the comments below and check back tomorrow for my review of ZombiU, possibly the Wii U’s best game.
