1: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
The Metal Gear Solid series is my favourite series of games ever made and MGS4 provides a brilliantly told, brilliantly made and incredibly touching conclusion to the long story of the legendary Solid Snake. It was bat shit crazy, graphically and sonically superb and played like a dream. It isn't the best Metal Gear but it's the best Metal Gear since MGS2.
2: Grand Theft Auto V
Honestly if it weren't for Rockstar's unforgivable and totally inexcusable mandatory install which meant all I could do was play the single player because I had no space for the online download, or any other games, then this would have been number one. It pushes every edge of the gaming envelope and it is frankly unbelievable that Rockstar achieved this on these consoles.
3: Red Dead Redemption
This game tells one of the greatest stories ever seen in gaming and is the best western game ever made. It isn't without it's flaws but even after all this time it's still jaw dropping. And that ending. That. Bloody. Ending.
4: Halo 3
This is Bungie's masterpiece. It's genre defining and has simply never been matched in the first person shooter genre. The gameplay, level design, story, graphics and sound are amazing and are complimented by a near flawless online suite. Simply incredible.
5: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
The world of Skyrim, and the hours you can spend wandering around in it, are this games best feature. The story is dull and the lack of multiplayer features frustrating but by God the amount of hours of enjoyment this game provides is ludicrous.
6: Bioshock: Infinite
The gameplay, graphics etc. are all superb but it's the thought provoking, hyper emotional ending to this game that makes it so good. This is the game that has moved me emotionally more than any other form of entertainment. It is unbelievable and a must play for any fan of narrative driven games.
7: Gears of War 3
Gears of War 3 was the Gears game that got it right. A brilliant action movie style story line complimented with years of character development, flawlessly paced single player missions and a glorious online component, Gears of War may never be beaten in the third person shooter sphere.
8: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
Every game in this series is hideously flawed but everyone one (apart from 3) is mesmerising
nonetheless and with its vast open world and superb naval gameplay this game is the best of them. Also Edward and his story far eclipses that of Ezio's in terms of interest and emotion.
9: The legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
The scene between Ilia and Link, you know the one, is one of the most moving things I've ever seen and it doesn't even feature voice acting. And the music on the journey to Snowpeak is a stunning example of melodic minimalism. Add to this the brilliant nods to Ocarina of Time and you have the best reason to own a Wii.
10: Super Mario Galaxy
Mario Galaxy is the most inventive 3D platformer I have ever played. It isn't the best Mario game ever but by God it shows there is still plenty of life in the old plumber yet.
Batman: Arkham City
Mass Effect 3
Mario Kart Wii
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Dragon Age: Origins
