Which Mario Kart is the Best?

With Mario Kart 8 on the way and as it's one of my most anticipated games this year I thought I'd do a run down of what are my favourite Mario Kart games.

Mario Kart DS - As the first game in the series to feature online multiplayer this game became incredibly important in helping the game spawn a massive and dedicated online community.

Super Circuit - it's like having the original in your hands! The GBA allowed for so many SNES-like experiences and this is one of the best.

Super Mario Kart - The original game was pretty ground breaking for the time and despite being so old it still plays great today.

Mario Kart 64 - The series first foray into 3D was vibrant, playful, challenging and fun and is also one of the best four player experiences available.

Mario Kart Wii - This is one of the best selling games of all time and is a game I have poured dozens of hours into both by myself and with friends. This is simply an amazing kart racer through and through.

Mario Kart 7 - The ability to glide might not sound like much but in typical Nintendo fashion it was an incremental change that brought bags of freshness to this old series. Add in the amazing tracks and the more robust online multiplayer and you have the best portable Mario Kart to date.

Double Dash - Double Dash is near flawless. From it's charming look, playful use of double teams and amazing track design it is hands down the best Mario Kart ever made. The sense of fun that this game has is second to none.

So there you have it, my favourite Mario Kart games. I have very high hopes that come the end of May Mario Kart 8 can sit at the top of this list.
